Started in 2013 — with a single backhoe loader
J.E. Civils was established in 2013 by two Van Zyl brothers from Vredendal. They started out with just one machine — a CAT 416C backhoe loader — which they operated themselves while servicing local sites.
The brothers shared a clear vision: to build a business focused on quality and professionalism. That hands-on approach never left. Today the company runs a full fleet of machines and trucks, holds standing contracts with mines and farms, and still takes on the smaller jobs that keep the community moving.
We remain a hands-on plant hire company specialising in road works, earthmoving and civil projects — the kind of outfit where the people who own the business are the people you deal with.
